Season Highlights 2023

31 August @ 7:00 pm - 17 September @ 5:00 pm

Four selected groups exhibit as the conclusion of the Apprentice Master program 2022/2023

In the exhibition Season Highlights, four groups of Apprentices from the current season of Apprentice Master are selected to make an exhibition each in one of Kunstpodium T’s spaces during the summer.
A selection of four groups has been made by Managing director Klaartje Esch and Yearmaster Mickey Yang. The selected groups have developed strongly artistically as a group during the season, taken full advantage of the project’s opportunities, and demonstrated the value of collectivity for their practice.
Linked to the Season Highlights exhibition is the Jan Naaijkens Prize: an award for the preservation of artistic talent in Brabant that has been associated with the Apprentice Master program since 2014.
Previously, the prize was awarded to individual Apprentices. The shift from an individual Jan Naaijkens Prize to a group prize stems from the growing importance of collectivity in art, which we also increasingly value. Collectivity is a major driving force throughout the program; thus also in the Jan Naaijkens Prize.

During the opening of the exhibition an independent jury will declare one of the groups the winner. The jury consists of various professionals from the art world. In 2023, this jury consists of:
– Àngels Miralda, curator and writer
– Wessel Verrijt, visual artist + former Apprentice
– Yannik Guldner, curator and writer

The opening and presentation will take place on Thursday, Aug. 31 19:00h, you are welcome!
After that, the exhibitions will be on display at Kunstpodium T until Sept. 17.

Participating groups:

*A/M #3 – Einfühlung / ashes / mouth / void / mania / ssssshhh@ Omstand, Arnhem
With: Bart Pols, Lieve van den Bijgaart, Lucas Mergler and Sarah Dietz

Six rooms, six words, five artists, three weeks
Each room providing a framework for collaboration and thoughts

The glass room is for feeling-in,
extending ourselves into lines, shapes, objects and each other
moving between similarities and differences

The battery room contains our void. Nothingness, drained and filled.
Next we enter at the mouth, only to fall apart a few steps later. All that has been has turned to black.
Mania follows. The subtle kind that takes possession of artist’s minds, or the one detached from reality. Words dissolve into soft soun

A/M #6 – Tuning in: Letters and Matter and Landscapes
@ B32, Maastricht
With: Fedrik Vaessen, Iver Uhre Dahl, Karla Paredes, Noa Zuidervaart

Dear all,

For six months we exchanged letters that gave us a common ground to create work based on a rich archive of thoughts, stories, interests, knowledge, emotions, beliefs and doubts.

So, what’s next for us? I made a machine do our work. “… nothing but horizontals, no
brightness: colorless space and dead life”. Verb (used with object), land·scaped,
land·scap·ing. But this book argues that this is old thinking.
I’d rather think slow than not at all.

To end this letter handwritten; I am very much looking forward to all we will experience,
write and do. I am looking more and more forward to our next meeting. “… we will have
this massive list of recommendations to consume!” Quickly off to the mailbox now.

Much Love,

Iver, Karla, Noa, Fedrik, Marie

PPS: I drew Sigur and the dragon holding hands and being friends.

A/M #10 – Scenery Scenario –  MORPHO (The Refectory), Antwerpen
Wtih: Bobbi Cleij, Lotte Werkema, Max van Loon, Shanna Huijbregts

Gardens are meant for cultivation, display and enjoyment of nature, but most of all show that we are in control. They are proof of the beautiful contradiction that the organic can very well be planned. Combined with elegantly designed support structures, such as fences, shrines, poles and ponds, nature lives up to its highest ornamental potential.
