WHEN: Thursday 22 March 2018, 17.00 to 18.00
Daan den Houter is a multidisciplinary artist that lives and works in Rotterdam. Before he went to the art academy, he studied Artificial Intelligence in which he found the basis for his work as an artist. His works research the way in which we adapt ourselves and look at the (art) world and focuses on generating changes to the most common, daily things.
Being on a continuous search for new ways to approach an artwork, Den Houter came up with the idea of the ‘Overschilderschilderij’, the paint-over painting, a canvas on which since 2002 more than 125 painters have painted their own painting (for instance Reinoud van Vught, Klaas Gubbels, Lucassen Evi Vingerling, Rob Scholte and Katinka Lampe). He also made the work Keep on Dreaming, about the collective memory of an artwork based on a shared financial value; and created ice-painting that change in form and colour, make sounds and slowly dissolve into a memory while you look at it.
