Apprentice Master exhibition #5
Birthe Leemeijer (master)
March 19th 2020 – April 12th 2020
In their work, five artist research the various aspects of nature and her effects on our perception. Isolating and exposing phenomena in a new space has been the main focus for this exhibition. How do people experience the landscape and her elements of the past, the present and the future? And does the landscape experience us as well?
The space is transformed into a serene atmosphere, where different senses are being carefully approached and questioned. The works offer a moment to research time, timelessness and temporality in the world in which we exist. The exhibition might suggest to us a different embodiment of the connection between humans, nature and art.
About the artists
In her art practice Kim Gromoll is in search of natural and sensory aesthetics. Her artworks exist of minimal interventions in order to illuminate an aspect and display it in the most genuine manner, to show and experience nature for what it could be. Showing its fairness, vulnerability and beauty allows for new insights and the opportunity to reevaluate our relationship with nature, our perspective on nature and possibly regain some appreciation for what it brings to the world.
The contemporary mystery and its value are continuously researched in Koen Kievits’ work. Is the miracle dead? By subtracting phenomena from our surroundings and reshaping them into his installations he tries to approach and displace the senses of the viewer.
Leonard Passchier sets his human scale against the ((future)naturel) environment. Here he tries to give himself and others a standing chance and to give a practical answer to the major issues concerning climate change and the landscape that is changing as a result of this.
Roos Vogels does not seek to romanticise nature, nor is she working from a political or moral position. She is concerned however with the knowledge and insight we gain by interacting with the physical world and the materiality of things. What happens when two forces meet each other and how they seem to transcend into something new, is something that she thoroughly investigates. Connection and longing, trying to grasp the magic of natural phenomena, is what she captures in her work.
